Site Name: This Distracted Globe

What is the main focus of your site (reviews, editorials, news, lists, etc.)?
The main focus of my site is to keep an encyclopedic entry of each movie I see, in order to combat the effects of a sudden onset of amnesia. Each entry consists of a plot summary (without revealing the ending), behind the scenes information about the making of the film, and then whether or not I thought it was good. In case I become as lazy as I am forgetful, I also include screenshots so I can mentally cue the movie on images alone.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
In terms of what I’m trying to get out of the blog, I enjoy writing and I enjoy watching movies, so the satisfaction comes in being able to do both on a weekly basis. If I can inspire someone to rent something I’ve recommended, or if I can piss them off by trashing a movie they love, that is an added enjoyment.

Do you prefer an interactive ‘community’ for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
I think of myself as a museum curator selecting particular movies and then arranging the diorama in the best presentation my budget allows. I suppose I see myself more of a “teacher” than a host, but if I wasn’t getting feedback on a regular basis, I would probably become despondent.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
This Distracted Globe went up in June 2006. I now post a new 1,000-word entry every three days, usually around 7pm PST.

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Naming my three favorite movies can change depending on my mood, the weather and whether or not the Lakers lost. I will cheat somewhat by saying my favorite movie is The Godfather and The Godfather Part II. Coppola assembled a 6-hour version of the films for ABC in 1977, with missing scenes and everything unfolding in chronological order. It was the original “director’s cut.”

How did you hear about the LAMB?
I heard about LAMB from Marilyn Ferdinand at Ferdy on Films, Etc. when she linked the site on her blogroll. If I could, I would buy her a cookie.

Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that’s not listed above.
I really enjoy reading movie writers with imagination. Kimberly Lindbergs at Cinebeats, Jeremy Richey at Moon In The Gutter and Marilyn Ferdinand at Ferdy on Films Etc. are among those rare craftsmen who take advantage of being able to write about anything at their sites. I can understand writing a review of Cloverfield or giving your Oscar predictions if your boss is telling you to write that, but this is the world wide web, and I’d love to see writers follow their own idiosyncrasies and produce content that was more original. Maybe I’m just talking about myself here.
