Site Name: Black Hole DVD Reviews

What is the main focus of your site (reviews, editorials, news, lists, etc.)?
There’s so much written about the latest US releases and DVDs of films from the last few years. I’m more interested in talking about offbeat films outside this spotlight – older, subtitled, black-and-white even… I love anything that shows me something that I’ve never seen before.

I focus on Japanese and Korean horror movies. It’s exciting to find movies from the other side of the world that breathe new life into the genre. It’s hard to find information about many of these, besides reviews, in English language. I try and recommend the best DVDs out there, whether they’re to be found in Thailand, Hong Kong or wherever. I try and add some cultural perspective about the plots, just don’t ask me what the one-eyed umbrella ghost is all about.

Reviews are spoiler-free, giving out just enough to try and entice people.
I also reminisce about my favourites from the seventies, (when I went to the cinema a lot), that I think are still of interest for a new audience today.

There’s also a regular look at missing titles that still aren’t on DVD.

If I see anything that talks about movies with only huge blocks of text, I switch off. This is a visual medium we’re writing about, so I work hard to unearth interesting photos and posters as long as they don’t spoil the plot.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
Trying to learn to write better. More concisely, interesting, but hopefully amusing reviews that help people find new movies to enjoy. I’m struggling to remember my English lessons from thirty years ago.

Do you prefer an interactive ‘community’ for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
I’d love to get more feedback. It’s exceedingly rare though. Any direction would be very welcome. At the moment I just follow any notions that sounds like a good idea, without any idea if it’s a good idea, or not a good idea. You get the idea?

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
Been blogging for two and half years so far. I add two or three entries a week and now contribute an Asian horror movie review to the EvilDread website every week.

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Barbarella, Blade Runner, and Thunderbirds Are Go.

How did you hear about the LAMB?
From Final Girl. Who else?

Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that’s not listed above.
None.
