It’s time for the 2008 LAMMYS!

Judge your peers! Brag about your standing within the LAMB community! Win fabulous prizes! If the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences can recognize its own every year, so can the LAMB.

Here we are nearly six months and more than 75 LAMBs into this little project, and it appears to be a hit. Mrs. Fletch and I were discussing potential future LAMB events one day (as we do quite a bit) and she came up with the idea of an awards show for the LAMBs. I loved it immediately, and was ready to put the plan in motion that night, but didn’t want to step on the Sirens’ toes. As a result, I’ve been teasing you for three weeks. Here are the details:

The rules:
Voting and eligibility is open to current LAMBs only (#1 – 78). Click on the link below and vote for up to three (3) LAMBs for each award (no need to rank). You are not permitted to vote for your own site, as allowing it would likely negate the effect. I understand that this is a large number of sites to visit and judge, so the “awards ceremony” is scheduled for two weeks from now – Monday, May 5th. At that time, the accounting firm of Dylan, Fletch and Scooter (the pug) will review the results and determine winners of the 14 awards, along with a runner-up for the Best Blog award.

Prizes:

  • Winners of each category will be eligible to place one of the excellent banners below on their sites (the “4” will be exchanged for the appropriate number), created by the LAMMYS “sponsor” RIPE Creative – aka Mrs. Fletch’s company. (Banners and code will be emailed to the winners).
  • In addition, the sites chosen as Best Blog and Best Blog Runner Up will be eligible for special banners for placement on their site.
  • As a bonus prize, the Best Blog winner will get their choice of the following DVDs (used but in perfect condition) from my library (Fargo, Logan’s Run, Stitch: The Movie, Reefer Madness, or Van Wilder: The Rise of Taj). Hey – it’s a bonus!

The categories:
Best Blog
The self-explanatory big kahuna.

Best Theme
This could be anything, from a blog devoted solely to sound editing to a blog devoted to the work of Clint Howard.

Most Prolific

Who makes you wonder how they sleep at night? Time to let them know their never-ending quest is worthwhile.

Best Running Feature
Some people only do reviews. Some people do commentary. Many have running features; who’s got the best one and what is it?

Best Design
Which site looks the best? This could be one that’s built from scratch or expanded from a template.

Best Blog Name
“Things To Do In Denver While You’re Blogging.” Another self-explanatory award.

Best Impression of J.D. Salinger
This award goes to the blogger that doesn’t post much, but the few posts that come are well worth the wait.

Best Impression of Bob Dylan
The inverse of the Salinger award, this one goes to the blogger that posts a lot, but maintains the highest quality with each and every post.

Most Ambitious
Who is shooting for the moon – I leave this one open to your interpretation.

Best Use of Widgetology

Anyone can place a number of widgets on their site, but the right mix and placement of widgets can turn a boring site into a great one. Who does it best?

Best Use of Technology (Alternative Media)
This award is for the person who thinks the best outside the literary box, from effective use of video to photo manipulation to…well, you name it.

Most Likely to Get Paid for Blogging
Our version of “Most Likely to Succeed.”

Best Rating System
Some use numbers, some use grades, some make their own rules. Whose is most impressive?

Best Random LAMB Banner
A special award given to those that have made and sent in a banner. The full gallery can be seen here.

Final Thoughts
Though it may take awhile depending on your familiarity, please take some time to visit all the LAMBs and give a fair and accurate judging. Use the handy LAMB scroll box to visit them all, use a feed reader, or just type them all into your browser one by one if that’s your bag.

On the poll, I’ll have a question or two about feedback and any suggestions for the 2009 LAMMYS. Please give your thoughts – what’s missing, different and/or better categories, the voting/nomination process, prizes, etc.

Most important – have fun and good luck to you all!

Thanks go out again to our sponsor, RIPE Creative, who created all the countdown pics, banners, etc… for this event.

I’m excited too. Perhaps a little disappointed there wasn’t a “Best Site named after a Kitchen Utensil” award. I’d be a lock.

  9. Fletch says:

Thanks, all – I hope it’s fun. I can’t wait to see all the results.

And Matt – if you only knew. I came thisclose to adding that…you’re just lucky that the newest LAMB, Fork on Film, hasn’t been added just yet…

  14. Nick says:

Fletch: If only you’d added the ‘Best Blog named after something you’d find on or within a house’. I could fight it out with Matt! And Blog Cabins would be disqualified, because it technically IS a house 😛 .

  15. Fletch says:

Mikey – I’m tempted to make a “For Your Consideration” ad for Blog Cabins. Those would be hilarious…complete with fake quotes and all.

  16. Mrs Fletch says:

Fletch – I’m SO on that “for your consideration” ad … send me your text.

  17. luke h. says:

Dude, I used to waste so much time at MisterPoll, back in my younger days…

Oh, and I concur with everyone saying “This is an awesome idea.”

  18. Yeah, I’m taking out an ad in Variety and Hollywood Reporter, so look out everyone.

  19. What a great idea!

I have a suggestion: If every LAMB voted for the Lammy’s post on ShowHype.com, we could really get some attention for this contest. 🙂

  20. Mrs Fletch says:

Carla has a VERY good idea…

  21. nick plowman says:

    Awesome, Awesome, Awesome.
