It's Blusterin' Time!
And remember: Blustering should be a two-way street; if you've asked to be blustered, you better be a blusterer.
If you're new to this feature or need a refresher, click the label at the bottom of this post and see the first few posts. Otherwise, here's the basics:
What I'll do is list a site; you're asked to critique it. But here's the catch: to induce the most honest reactions, don't leave the comment using your normal alias/login - instead, go anonymous, and be as brutally honest (or complimentary) as you wish to be. Also, be specific, and naturally, don't be rude. If I deem anything inappropriate, I'll have no problem deleting the comment.
So, go to the site listed below, familiarize yourself with it for a few minutes, then come back and leave some constructive criticism and/or comments that you have.
Site: He Shot Cyrus
LAMB#: 121
URL: http://www.he-shot-cyrus.blogspot.com/

If you're up for this treatment for your site (and you're a LAMB), send me an email with the subject "Bluster Me!" If you've already done so, no need to do it again - you're on the list, and these will be going up in order of when I received your email (by the way, it could take a while for your site to be Blustered, since I don't run this more than once a week or so).

I guess I will start with the first salvo ;)
ReplyDeleteFirst thing I would critic is the appearance of the blog, which is obviously very "stock". That is you are using the regular Blogger design. Let's face it, there is thousands of blogs which have the exact same design. You should try to move away from that and customize your design as best you can so your blog looks unique and hence more memorable.
Second thing is related. Your posts use only a tiny fraction of the screen and the font is very small to boot. Changing the design would go a long way toward fixing that. Why use only 20 or 30% of the screen when you can use 70 or 80% of it?
I love your interest with movie posters so definitely keep that going.
Finally, your website seems to be getting the vast majority of its traffic from Google Image which is not really what you want, so I guess you could work on networking, aka commenting regularly on other movie blogs to attract more traffic to your own blog
Good luck!
Blog looks good, although it does have a fairly standard template. The content is good, and I love all the stuff about posters
ReplyDeleteWhen I first saw the name of this blog I was like "This is the greatest blog name ever!" and was instantly hooked.
ReplyDeleteI do think the header is a bit large but that is only a minor complaint.
The reviews are funny but I'd like to see what he'd come up with if he did themes every now and then. That's about all I got.
I like it, especially the analysis of posters and images. A unique take on images - but there is nowhere near enough depth.
ReplyDeleteThere are some very generic posters and the simplistic styles and the lots-of-faces-to-show-all-the-stars have different purposes. You will get posters aimed at different markets too - some aimed at teenage boys and others aimed at the art house market and awards-savvy critics. Not to mention the fact that it seems a little unfair to credit the poster to directors - chances are the art dept for a media agency created the poster - who are they? The Brother Hildebrandt done the first Star Wars posters and a specific artist created the posters for the Indiana Jones films and all those movies ...
Then there is the artist references - surrealism influences loads. The Saw VI poster of the hand tied like shoe laces reeks of Magritte and his pair of feet that are, in fact, a pair of shoes...
So much scope on the poster front not really explored ...
