You are cordially invited to attend the 2010 LAMMY Awards

Judge your peers! Brag about your standing within the LAMB community! If the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences can recognize its own every year, so can the LAMB. That’s right – it’s time for the 3rd Annual LAMMY Awards! If you’re amongst the many LAMBs that was not yet a member for last year’s awards, be sure to click here for a recap of last year’s events.

The rules:
As with last year’s awards, the voting will be done via a traditional nomination/vote process. The nomination process will last for three weeks, until May 12th. There are the same number of categories as last year (15), though many of the awards themselves have been changed (see full summaries below).

Voting and eligibility is open to current LAMBs only (#1 – 516). One ballot per site; if your site has multiple contributors, you need to consolidate and submit as one ballot. I currently have about 35 more profiles in the hopper, and I would love to have them all be eligible, but it may up to a month before they’re all posted, and I think it’s unfair to include them for this year’s contest. For a list of all eligible LAMBs, in order with their LAMB number, this spreadsheet is available for you to view/save (you’ll likely need it).

Click on the link at the bottom of this post and nominate up to three LAMBs for each award (no ranking necessary), save for Best Blog, where you may nominate up to five sites. There are two sites that you are not allowed to vote for: your own site and the LAMB- votes for either will be discarded. Shortly after the nomination period has closed, I will post a list of the nominees. The final round of voting will then take place for another two week period.

Prizes:

  • Winners and Runner Ups of each category will be eligible to place a banner like one of the excellent banners below on their sites (the “4″ will be exchanged for the appropriate number), created by the LAMMYS “sponsor” RIPE Creative – aka Mrs. Fletch’s company. (Banners and code will be emailed to the winners). Additionally, all nominees will receive a banner as well, noting how many noms they got.
  • In addition, the sites chosen as Best Blog and Best Blog Runner Up will be eligible for special banners for placement on their site.

The categories:
Best Blog
The self-explanatory big kahuna.

Best Design
Which site looks the best? This could be one that’s built from scratch or expanded from a template.

Best Blog Name
“Things To Do In Denver While You’re Blogging.” Another self-explanatory award.

Most Prolific
Who makes you wonder how they sleep at night? Time to let them know their never-ending quest is worthwhile.

Best Blog-a-thon/Meme
So addictive you just couldn’t help but take part. So brilliant, so viral that it took over the internet (or maybe just a bunch of film blogs).

Funniest Writer
Who’s the next Richard Pryor? Or Carrot Top, even?

Brainiac Award
AKA, the “Most intelligent/insightful/academic writer.” Who is the Stephen Hawking of film bloggers?

Best Random LAMB Banner
A special award given to those that have made and sent in a banner. The full gallery can be seen here.

Best Overall Post
Could be a review, an interview, a contest, a game, an in-depth analysis, whatever. Yes, I expect this to be a very, very tight race.

Best Horror/Sci-Fi Blog

Best Classic Film Blog

Best Festival/Awards Coverage
Not all do it, but some dedicate months at a time to a festival, the Golden Globes and/or the Academy Awards. This is a chance to honor them.

Best New LAMB
A special award for any LAMB that’s been welcomed to the flock since last year’s LAMMYs. Sites eligible are #283 – 51x.

Best Podcast
Many LAMBs produce their own podcast; which are your favorites? (The LAMBcast is ineligible.)

Best Movie Reviewer
Maybe they just happen to always agree with you. Maybe they write in a way you only wish you could. Maybe you’re in awe of the wide array of films they review. Basically, if you had but a few whose reviews you could read, who would they be?

Final Thoughts
Though it may take awhile depending on your familiarity, please take the time to visit as many of the LAMBs as you can to give a fair and accurate judging. Use the handy LAMB scroll box to visit them all, use a feed reader, or, again, use this spreadsheet to help you out.

On the poll, I’ll have a question or two about feedback and any suggestions for the 2011 LAMMYS. Please give your thoughts – what’s missing, different and/or better categories, the voting/nomination process, prizes, etc.

Most important – have fun and good luck to you all!

Thanks go out again to our sponsor, RIPE Creative, who created all the countdown pics, banners, etc… for this event.

  1. Univarn says:

man I might have to whip out the special research underwear for this (some questions are best left unanswered)!

Can’t wait to see who all is nominated! good luck with your noms everyone (both giving and receiving :P )

  2. Rachel says:

That spreadsheet is amazing! Kudos for all the hard work of putting that together.

  3. Rachel says:

Also, I didn’t see a mention of FYC posters. Can we still do them?

  4. Nick says:

You say there are only two sites you can’t VOTE for… does that just mean VOTE or NOMINATE? As in, you can’t nominate your own blog?

Also, when do we start the For Your Considerations?

  5. TJMAC510 says:

The post for the FYC posters will be tomorrow I think but I emailed Dylan and he said you can send them in now.

This should be exciting. Good luck to everyone

  6. Fletch says:

Rachel – Travis is to be thanked for half the work on that spreadsheet. He put some time in as well.

Nick – correct, you can not vote/nominate/whatever you want to call it for your own blog (as usual).

Travis – look at you all hip with your looking at the dates the posts are scheduled for. I might have to up it or delay it just to squash your insidery info. ;)

Anyway, yeah, send in your FYCs at will. An official post, for those uninitiated, will be coming…later.

  7. Can just visitors to your site and to the LAMB without blogs nominate your blog?

  8. Super excited about this!!!

Where do I send campaign buttons, bumper stickers and cold-call sheets? Kidding. I can’t wait to vote for my favorite blogs.

  9. Fletch says:

Snob – nope, I’m afraid not. This is a by and for LAMBs production. Only current LAMBs (through #516) are eligible, and that pool of people are the only ones that can vote (one person per site, too, so if there’s more than one contributor, you need to combine onto one ballot).

  10. PS: I’ll have to hire an assistant to go through all the information in that epic spreadsheet.

  11. Ohboyohboyohboy…first time voter AND nominee. For the first time sincxe I’ve been of voting age, my one vote might make a difference!

    YES I CAN!

    …sorry.

    Good luck to everybody!

  12. TJMAC510 says:

Yeah that spreadsheet was a pain but luckily you already did half of it. It was worth it though because it really DOES help out a lot of people and especially since there is now 500 of us its hard to go to every single site.

ooohhh…i was trying to be helpful…oh well…SEND IN YOUR FYC POSTERS TODAY! GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO!

  13. Matt-suzaka says:

I got my eye on that bets blog name…that’s about all I got going for me!

This is all pretty exciting and I cannot wait to see who gets nominated!

  14. Film Gurl says:

Wow, great job on the spreadsheet! It’s nice to see how LAMB has grown so much – exciting stuff!

  15. Wendymoon says:

It’s LAMMY time again! Just to clarify, like for the purpose of best post, since these are the 2010 LAMMYS would they apply for the year 2009?

  16. I must agree with Rachel, this is really nice! :)

  17. Stacia says:

Quick question: What time frame are these awards for? I’m specifically wondering about Best Overall Post. Does it have to be something written in 2009 or is it something written between April 2009 and April 2010?

  18. Fletch says:

ThisGuy – no worries. Take as much or as little time as you need to research/vote. I don’t expect anyone to be an expert on 200 sites, much less 500, and as I’ve said, there’s no required categories – go with what’s comfortable. The important thing is that you just vote. :D

TGWD – I guarantee – your vote will make a difference here.

Matt-suzaka – I’d say you’re a strong contender for best name, if not a few other categories.

We need a hanidcapper to set odds so we can place bets and shit.

FilmGurl, DeeDee, Ms. Go – thanks! I agree – very exciting. Whatever shall we do for an encore?

Wendymoon, Stacia – the relevant dates are those between last year’s LAMMYs and this year’s. I can’t recall the specific start date of last year’s, but I’m pretty sure it was right about the same date: 4/19 or so.

  19. Who Is Afraid of Tim Burton? Two?... says:

    Bonjour! Fletch,
I’am already “sharpening” my pencils. Woot! Woot!
    Merci,
    DeeDee ;-D

  20. Stacia says:

    Thanks Fletch!

BTW, as I was going through the spreadsheet tonight, I discovered the URL for Careful With That Blog Eugene was wrong. It’s just a typo, there’s an extra “u” that shouldn’t be there.

  21. Fletch says:

Stacia – thanks for the heads up RE Careful with that Blog, Eugene. Made that fix and updated the URLs of a couple LAMBs that have changed recently.
