The 5th Annual LION Awards: Best Actress

It's time for our 6th LION Award and again don't expect the results to reflect the Oscar nods:

5. Juliette Binoche in Certified Copy (40 points)

4. Tilda Swinton in We Need to Talk About Kevin (50 points)

3. Kirsten Dunst in Melancholia (64 points)

2. Viola Davis in The Help (78 points)

1. Rooney Mara in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (83 points)

Come back tomorrow to see how the leading men stack up.

  1. No Meryl, no Michelle. Wow. Yay for Tilda!
And I'm surprised Rooney's the winner but it's surely awesome.

  2. What the f*ck happened??? I don't know about Mara... mimicking/interpreting a character really doesn't impress me that much.

I haven't seen the Kevin film but the Tilda Swinton pray is starting to build some hype.

  3. Great list. I'm glad to see Kirsten Dunst is number 3 on here. Appearntly winning at Cannes means you don't get a nomination anywhere else.

  4. Ok, so far this is the only category where I dislike our list compared to the Oscar nominations.

    1. I think, on the whole, I like our list better, I just don't know about Mara as the top choice. She was one of my favorites of the year, but I don't feel like she's deserving of the top spot.

  5. @Joel: Wait, wait, wait. Interpreting a character doesn't impress you? So, you are never impressed?

And Mara wasn't mimicking Rapace. He Lisbeth is different in lots of ways.

    1. Haha, I think Joel's worded it strangely. In acting you're either giving your "interpretation" or "mimicking".

  6. I like everyone on this list. Especially Mara, who I thought was great in her role. Surprising to see Binoche, though, but she really was great in Certified Copy.
