Trailer Trash Tuesday Presents: The 5 Best Fake Trailers Online.

by The Vern · August 7, 2012 · Trailer Trash · 10 Comments

This week for the Trailer Trash Tuesday post I decided to do something completely different and write what I think are some of the best fake trailers that were put out on the net.  Many of these just use existing footage, but are edited to give the film a different look..  The people who made these are so talented I hope they do get hired on for actual productions in the futrure.

I will be reviewing regular trailers next week, but for now, let’s just  have a few laughs.

5:  Mrs. Doubtfire.

I almost put the re cut trailer of “Mary Poppins in this spot, but the way they changed the tone of this story was just too brilliant for me to pass up.  We have seen Robin Williams play dark roles before in “One Hour Photo” and “Insomnia“.  So to see him as an abusive father who would dress up as an older woman to see his kids again is not that much of a stretch.  I’m almost hoping that if this gets remade, it would be done in this fashion.

4. Paranormal Activity 4

The “Paranormal Activity” movies have become bland since part two, and this trailer parodies all the usual cliches that are found in those films.  This is so well done I really was hoping that this would be the next one in that franchise.  I know that most likely there will be another “Scary Movie” sequel in which they lampoon the found footage concept, but I don’t think they will capture the humor quite as good as they do here.

3.  Must Love Jaws

Jaws” is one of the scariest movies I have ever seen, and every time I watch it.  I  regress back to my childhood fear of sharks and being eaten alive.  This trailer is done in a “Free Willy”  style about two marine biologists (Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss) who must protect a Great White Shark from a dangerous hunter(Robert Shaw).  This is a great trailer because it makes the shark into a lovable animal rather than a man killing, eaten machine.

2.  Shining

This is one trailer I’m pretty confident that everyone has seen before.  Yet I could not help putting it at this spot because changing this from a horror masterpiece to a typical run of the mill family flick is pure genius.  Peter Gabriel’sSolbury Hills” has never been used more effectively in films before than it does here.  It would be very funny if they did  re-release The Shining” and used just this trailer to market it.  Fans would go see it because we love the movie, but for the general public who have not.  It would be quite a surprise.

1.  Titanic 2

Many, many years after the death of  Jack(Leonardo DiCaprio ) a group of underwater explorers come across his body being frozen in a chunk of ice and are able to bring him back.  Most of the trailers I have seen just re cut footage to change the tone of that motion picture.  This one however creates a whole new story by using scenes of many different movies. As well as manipulating some scenes to feature Mr.DiCaprio in those moments. If this was a real movie I would go see it. It looks that good.

What are some of your favorite fake trailers.  Please leave comments below..
