What is the main focus of your site? Semi-academic yet not-wholly-serious film criticism accessible to the casual reader. In reviewing films I tend to avoid subjective evaluations of acting and the like and tend to hone in on the empirical use/misuse of narrative techniques and cinematic style. The Reflections segment features more theoretically intense essays on a variety of areas like auteurism, mise-en-scene, psychoanalysis, and genre studies (I have written two lengthy historical analyses of the zombie and superhero genres, for instance).
What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog? Firstly, as a platform for my own writing, to begin to build up my online profile with an aim of getting into freelancing. Secondly, having a website and the constant deadlines that come with weekly releases is a stimulating motivator.
Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers the students? I would prefer an interactive audience, definitely. I don’t profess to know everything and act very suspicious around people who do.
How long has this site been active for, and how frequently do you post updates to your site? (Note: sites must be active for at least three months for entry to the LAMB.) Started in July of 2012, and I try to update it a few times each week — time and other commitments permitting.
Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more). Off the top of my head: Heat, Dawn of the Dead (the original), and Grizzly Man.
Name a movie you hate!! The latest adaptation of Great Expectations was the worst two hours I can remember enduring in a cinema. And I went to see Gnomeo and Juliet alone in a screening packed with kids who were laughing at me. Yeah, it’s THAT bad.
How did hear about the LAMB? If it was a LAMB, do you recall which one? Someone retweeted a tweet of yours.
