What is the main focus of your site? A review of films with a slightly deeper analysis on film theory than most reviews. I don’t want to simply say a movie was good or bad, I want to talk about a director’s auteurism, editing, social and ideological issues and other elements of a film that will force my readers to look at a film a bit differently. I want to prove that movie reviewers are not just cynical critics with biased interpretations. I want to write intelligent responses to films and incorporate more theory into reviews and have my readers think a little more deeply about film.
What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog? I want to pursue a profession in film criticism. My ideal job would be working for Indiewire, THR, or Deadline and covering major film festivals. I would like my blog to be a resume to show to future employers and have it demonstrate my ability to review films with a thoughtful analysis. I would also like to make contacts and have discussions with other bloggers and receive insight and feedback on films.
Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers the students? I highly value the interactions and feedback that come with having a blog. The community aspect, to me, is integral to developing my reviewing skills and enjoy the civilized discussions I have with readers who disagree with me.
How long has this site been active for, and how frequently do you post updates to your site? (Note: sites must be active for at least three months for entry to the LAMB.) I started it in 2011. I post about once a month, but that is because I’ve been busy with school. I’m about to graduate, so hopefully I will be able to post more frequently.
Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more). All About My Mother, Punch Drunk Love and American Beauty.
Name a movie you hate!! Transformers
How did hear about the LAMB? If it was a LAMB, do you recall which one? The Vern’s Videovanguard
Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that’s not listed above. (optional) I heard this was a great community to be a part of, and I’d love to share my thoughts with other ardent film geeks.
