What is the main focus of your site?
I tend to focus on reviewing more cinematic and artistic films. However, I try my best to strike a balance. For instance, I’m currently working through the Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street franchises while also watching pre-90s Krzysztof Kieslowski films. In addition, I’m also working through the films I haven’t seen from IMDb’s top 250. So I’ve got a variety I’m trying to mix.

I also co-host a weekly podcasting called Movie Dictator Club with another movie blog, The Reelists.

In addition to that, I’m also trying out this idea I had where I go through a film scene by scene and examine it. I’ve started with Days of Heaven and talking about the construction and significance of every shot. It’s different and a bit daunting but I’m enjoying it.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
My career gold is to become a film critic, therefore, I started this blog more as a way to get into the habit of writing about films on a regular basis.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers the students?
At first, I didn’t even allow comments on my blog. But people started asking me if I would allow them, so I did. I’m glad I did because I’ve been exposed to a lot of great film bloggers that I now keep up with. So initially I stated off blogging as a one way road, but I think it’s gradually becoming more communal.

Personally, I’d prefer at least a bit of an interactive community. I wrote reviews for my school newspaper and while it was a great opportunity, it was frustrating because I rarely got any kind of specific feedback. Not from the editors, or any of the readers or my professors. It was just “good job” or “great review” which isn’t nearly as helpful to me as getting a comment from a fellow blogger who will often offer up a rebuttal or tell me where they think I’m off or where my logic is faulty.

However, during that time I did get some fantastic feedback from some professionals who’ve helped me refined some of my writing.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
I started the site August of 2009. I try my best to update every day, but, as you might imagine, it’s hard to commit to posting something every day.

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Days of Heaven
Notorious
The Double Life of Veronique
.
